the yarn base
Base 1. is 100% British Bluefaced Leicester it is superwash treated and available in 4ply (fingering) and double knitting weight.
Bluefaced leicester or BFL is amazing to knit and crochet with! It is soft enough to wear against the skin but due to the length of the staple your projects should be long lasting and much less prone to pilling than a yarn such as merino.
Although not a sticky yarn it knits up beautifully in colour-work, while also having beautiful stitch definition in a cabled project
I cannot recommend this base enough!
The 4ply/fingering weight skeins are 100g in weight and 400m /430yds. As an approximate guide they knit to a standard 4ply guage - 28 stitches x 38 rows over 10cm on 3.25mm needles.
The Double Knitting skeins are 100g in weight 225m /245yds. Again, as a guide, they are a standard DK weight so knit to 22 stitches x 30 rows over 10cm on 4mm needles.
HOWEVER! i would always recommend a gauge swatch to check your tension before starting on a project that needs to have a particular fit!
